Digital images from a Canon 5D Mark III camera using 800mm lens stack at a distance of 1.66 miles from the launch pad. Unfortunately, the camera lost focus in the bright light of the rocket exhaust and did not recover.

    Flare above engines

    The bright flare appearing above the exhaust flame has been determined to be the reflection of the exhaust on ice crystals falling off of the super-cooled liquid oxygen tank area.
